Who am I? I'm someone who has called Clive home since 2004.
I first moved to Iowa from suburban St. Louis in 1990 to attend Drake University. In four years, I graduated Cum Laude with degrees in communications and psychology. My senior year, I led the campus newspaper, The Times-Delphic, as editor.
In 2004, my husband and I returned to Iowa to raise our children — in large part based on Iowa’s reputation for great schools. Both our girls attended Waukee Schools from kindergarten through graduation.
We chose to make our home in Clive because of the reputation of the schools, the neighborhood park and the really cool aquatic center!
The first place my family went after signing our closing papers was the Clive Public Library. A top priority was to sign up for a library card! (Yes, we’re like that.) When they were little, my girls and I visited just about every week to restock our book supply and participate in the regular programs.
I have been an active member at Faith Lutheran Church on University Avenue in Clive since 2004. I have served my church community in many leadership positions over the years including being elected as a church council member, serving from May 2014 to May 2017.
After a career as a newspaper copy editor, I stepped back from my professional life to raise my daughters. (One is now an Iowa State student and the other will start at the University of Iowa in the fall.) Getting back into paid work when the second child started kindergarten, I sought out family-friendly jobs and was an assistant preschool teacher for two glorious years at Seeds of Faith Early Learning Center in Clive. As my children grew, I accepted the position of building secretary at Prairieview School, which is now one of Waukee Community School District’s two 8th and 9th grade buildings. This year, I have had the honor to help the same students with track team sign-ups and computer issues who I once helped practice their letters and colors. Relationships matter.
Fun fact: Last spring, my daughters and I had an amazing day solving clues and zipping around Clive’s businesses and landmarks to be crowned champions of the 2020 Clive Scavenger Hunt. (Our team name: Pawnee Goddesses.) Check out our awkward photos here!
